BIPOC Hair Pop-ups

This project was inspired by my research project on "hair deserts" during my Intro to Black Studies class in Fall 2021. The discovery that Middlebury qualified as a hair desert inspired me to join the student government association as a co-director of their DEI committee. My position as director allowed me to collaborate with Derisa Collymore, the director of the Anderson Freeman Center, to introduce BIPOC hair-pop ups, which afforded students with subsided hair care by professional stylists from New York and Burlington, VT. The immense success of the pop ups ultimately led to the creation of a permanent salon in the AFC.
